Just like all other trading markets, Forex trading too calls for some specific strategies. Traders must calculate each step and use these strategies intelligently to make considerable profits.
Know The Basics
Forex trading involves purchasing and selling foreign currencies. There are certain rates for buying and selling the currencies and these rates vary from one Forex trading market to another. Profits can be made in Forex trading only when the selling rate is more than the buying rate. The best trading strategies are objective ruling out subjectivity. The most effective strategies are formulated by technical analysis.
Kinds of Forex trading strategies
There are various Forex trading strategies that are applied depending on the market situation. However, there are a few basic strategies that are universally adopted by all investors.
Strategy developed on the basis of Simple Moving Average (SMA)
This strategy involves the establishing of a 12 periods simple moving average with the prices of the foreign currencies. Using this average, the movements of the prices are plotted on the graph. When the price of a particular currency crosses above the 12-period average, it indicates that it is the right time to purchase the currency. On the flip side when the price of the currency crosses below the 12-period average, it indicates that it is time to sell. This is the simplest strategy that can be followed by investors trading at any part of the world. The Simple Moving Average is easy to understand and is one of the basic Forex trading strategies. However, there are high risks in this method and some consider it to be unreliable.
Support and Resistance Levels
The Support and Resistance Levels strategy is followed for establishing the support and resistance levels in the foreign currency prices. The support level signifies the lowest price point or the base point at a certain time. The resistance level refers to the upper price point at the same time. The study of graphs that are based on the price movements of the foreign currencies help in the determination of the support and resistance levels. When the prices violate the support and resistance levels, it indicates the setting of new price trends in the Forex trading market. Consequently, the support and resistance levels are established again.
Other strategies
- Strategies are developed on the basis of leverage which allows traders to trade with more money that has been deposited in the account. For example, if your broker allows you a leverage of 100, you can trade using 100 times more than the money you have in your account. This strategy is used to capitalize on the short-term fluctuations in price in the Forex trading market.
- Stop loss order is a strategy that decreases the loss and protects the money of the investor. Through this strategy investors set trading limits. If the currency rates go below this point, the investors stop trading and prevent themselves from losing money. This strategy also has a downside. The investor misses out on potential gains by following this strategy.
- Automatic entry order is a strategy that allows the investor to enter the Forex trading arena when the prices are profitable. This prevents the investor from missing out on the advantageous trading opportunities.
Veteran Forex investors often combine more than one strategy to develop their own customized trading principles. For example, they use other technical analyses methods along with SME to locate better trading opportunities.
